The masseter muscle is a fairly large muscle that extends from the upper jaw to the lower jaw. Its enlargement due to excessive activity, to the point where it is visible from the outside, is called “masseter hypertrophy.” Masseter hypertrophy can develop due to teeth clenching and grinding, and is also frequently seen in individuals who consume hard foods and chew gum.
Masseter Botox (jaw Botox) is a procedure performed to reduce increased activity in the jaw muscles through the application of Botulinum toxin, ultimately preventing muscle contraction.
Masseter Botox, also known as jaw Botox, is applied to eliminate angular forms or asymmetries in the lower part of the face caused by excessive activity of the masseter muscle. Bruxism, a condition characterized by teeth clenching or grinding during the day or night, can lead to various problems such as tooth wear, periodontal lesions, temporomandibular joint disorders, and muscle pain. In addition to occlusal splints, medications, and behavioral approaches, jaw Botox injections can be used for patients who grind their teeth.
The frequently highlighted advantages of masseter botox treatment are:
Since Botox injection is done through the skin, do not wear makeup on the day of the application.
There are no restrictions regarding whether you are fasting or not, or continuing your current medications. However, if you are on antibiotic treatment for any reason, please inform your doctor.
Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, neurofen, or alcohol on the day of the application. If possible, stop taking aspirin five days beforehand and do not consume alcohol the day before.
Since Botox application does not cause any marks, bleeding, or swelling, you can immediately return to your daily life after the application.
For the first 24 hours after the application, you should avoid rubbing the treated area, lying on it, and performing harsh movements such as removing makeup; avoid any situation that may create pressure on the area.
Botox is a solution used with a cold chain, therefore its structure is damaged by heat. After the application, it is necessary to avoid excessively hot applications such as Turkish baths and saunas.
After a Botox treatment, you should not expose your skin to sunlight for at least eight hours, and if possible, avoid intense sun exposure for 1-2 weeks.
It is recommended that you do not lie down for 3-4 hours after the application, that you stand upright, and especially avoid movements such as bending forward.
On the day of the application, you should not exercise, swim in a pool, and should not consume alcohol for two days.
You should avoid facial massages for at least two weeks.
You should not shower on the day of the application.
